student involvement

Promoting Spanish and Portuguese language study and culture by students is a major objective of the AATSP-MN. We strive, along with the national organization and the support of educators, to provide opportunities for youth in Minnesota to explore the various aspects and areas of language and culture, challenge their abilities through competitions, and receive recognition for excellence in their pursuits. Our chapter provides support to educators through the following activities. Please explore and contact the coordinator for more information.

  • National Spanish Examinations (NSE) - An online, standardized assessment tools for Grades 6 -12, given voluntarily by over 3800 teachers throughout the United States to measure proficiency and achievement of students who are studying Spanish as a second language.

  • Poster Contest - An event open to K-12 Spanish and Portuguese students whose teachers are current AATSP members. Students design a poster to reflect ideas related to the theme selected by the AATSP Board in Spanish or Portuguese. State and National winners are recognized for their work.

  • Sociedades Honorarias - Honor societies for elementary, middle, and high school students enrolled in Spanish and/or Portuguese classes.
